One of the most iconic clashes between two Delhi-born captains happened in 2013 when RCB faced Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kohli was dismissed for 35 by Lakshmipathy Balaji and as he walked back to the pavilion, he had a verbal spat with Gambhir, who was leading KKR. The two players came face to face and exchanged some harsh words before being separated by their teammates. The reason for the altercation was not clear but it was speculated that Gambhir was unhappy with Kohli’s celebration after hitting a boundary off him earlier in the innings.

Another famous incident involving Kohli and a former India teammate occurred in 2011 when RCB took on Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the Wankhede Stadium. Kohli was batting on 34 when he edged a delivery from Sreesanth to the wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel. Sreesanth, who was known for his antics and sledging, gave Kohli a send-off by clapping sarcastically and mocking him. Kohli did not take it lightly and responded by showing him the middle finger as he walked off. Kohli was fined 50% of his match fee for his gesture while Sreesanth escaped any punishment.

In 2019, RCB was playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and were defending a modest total of 175. In the final over of the match, Umesh Yadav bowled a full toss to Shivam Dube which was above waist height and should have been called a no-ball by umpire Nigel Llong. However, Llong did not signal anything and Dube could only manage a single of it. Kohli was furious with the umpire’s error and stormed onto the field to confront him. He also had a heated argument with SRH captain Kane Williamson and coach Tom Moody. RCB eventually lost the match by four wickets and Kohli was fined 12 lakh rupees for breaching the IPL code of conduct.

Kohli is also known for being very demanding and critical of his teammates if they do not perform up to his expectations. In 2017, RCB were playing against Rising Pune Supergiant at the MCA Stadium and were chasing a target of 158. In the penultimate over of the match, RCB needed 31 runs to win with four wickets in hand. Ashok Dinda, who was playing for RPS, bowled a poor over and conceded 30 runs, including three sixes and two fours. Kohli, who was batting at the other end, was visibly frustrated with Dinda’s bowling and showed his displeasure by shaking his head and gesturing angrily at him. The most recent angry moment of Kohli in the IPL happened in 2022 when RCB faced Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the 18th over of the match, when RCB needed one wicket to win versus DC, Kohli was seen giving Ganguly a death stare from the Delhi dugout.  The reason for Kohli’s glare was not clear but it was speculated that it had something to do with Ganguly’s role as the BCCI president and his alleged interference in team selection and captaincy matters.
