Shreyas Iyer made his comeback to international cricket after recovering from a back injury that had sidelined him for six months. The stylish right-hander, who had missed the home series against England and the tour of West Indies, returned to the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka.

Iyer was slotted in at the number four position, which had been a problem area for India in his absence. He came to the crease after captain Virat Kohli was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi for 14 in the 10th over. India were struggling at 66 for 4, having lost Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli cheaply as well.

Iyer showed no signs of rustiness as he counter-attacked the Pakistani pacers with flair and aggression. He hit two boundaries off Haris Rauf in his first over, one through the covers and one over mid-off. He also rotated the strike well with Ishan Kishan, who was playing a brilliant knock at the other end.

However, Rauf had his revenge in his next over, when he bowled a fiery delivery that broke Shreyas Iyer’s bat. The ball hit the edge of the bat and split it into two pieces. The funny thing was that the ball still raced away to the third man boundary, much to the amusement of everyone.

The pictures and videos of Shreyas Iyer’s bat being broken have gone viral on social media, with many fans and experts praising his power and timing. Iyer himself took it sportingly and smiled as he changed his bat.

India recover from a shaky start and post a respectable total of 266 in their 50 overs. However, rain played spoilsport and washed out the second innings, resulting in a no-result.
