Rajasthan Royals were agonizingly close to winning the title as they lost in the last years IPL final to Gujarat Titans. Since winning the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, they have been unimpressive throughout the majority of their time in the tournament. Kumar Sangakara and co have made significant progress with the side and are one of the favorites coming into this year’s Tata IPL 2023. Let’s take a closer look at Rajasthan Royals squad for this season.
Rajasthan Royal’s auction purchases
- Jason Holder (INR 5.75 crore)
- Kunal Rathore (INR 20 lakh)
- Adam Zampa (INR 1.5 crore)
- Donovan Ferreira (INR 50 lakh)
- KM Asif (INR 30 lakh)
- Joe Root (INR 1 crore)
- Murugan Ashwin (INR 20 lakh)
- Akash Vashisht (INR 20 lakh)
- Abdul P A (INR 20 lakh)
Batting
Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal form a powerful top 3. All 3 of them can win matches on their own, so getting them early will be key for opponents. For number 4, they a lot of options in the form of Joe Root, Yashaswi Jaiswal and young South African Donovan Ferreira. Shimron Hetmeyer and Riyan Parag will be 5 and 6 and RR would be hoping that they can explode at the end. Jason Holder and Ravi Ashwin are very good batters and will look end the innings on a high.
All-Rounders
Rajasthan let go off Jimmy Neesham and as a result are lacking in this department. They have Jason Holder and Riyan Parag are good options but have been inconsistent in the past. Ravi Ashwin is more of a bowling all-rounder than a batting one but since RR has invested a lot in their batting lineup, it wouldn’t be an issue. Akash Vashisht is also a good backup option.
Bowlers
RR have great options available when it comes to their bowling. Trent Boult will lead the pace attack of RR along with Prasidh Krishna and Navdeep Saini. Obed McCoy and KM Asif are also good pace options RR could try. When it comes to their spin department, there is hardly any team that can match the amount of options that RR has. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal would be the likely starters. But if any of them fails to make an impact, they have options in the form of Murugan Ashwin, Adam Zampa and KC Carriapa. Jason Holder and Riyan Parag are also good options to bowl in the middle overs.
Rajasthan Royal (RR) Strength
The Rajasthan Royals’ strength is in the top four. Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, and Yashasvi Jaiswal spearhead a powerful batting lineup. Just picture a top 4 where Joe Root is having trouble securing a berth. For the IPL 2023, RR kept the majority of their current roster. The majority of the players are still in fantastic shape. There is no reason why the team shouldn’t have an impact in the upcoming season as a result.
They have some of the greatest bowlers in the TATA IPL 2023, at least on paper. Together, they combine youth and experience. Trent Boult, Jason Holder, Prasidh Krishna, and Navdeep Saini are excellent options for pace. Not to mention the spinners like Murugapan Ashwin, Adam Zampa, Yuzi Chahal, and Ravi Ashwin.
Rajasthan Royal (RR) Weakness
Over the years, RR’s IPL struggles have been exacerbated by the inconsistent aspect, despite personnel changes. Despite having strong starts to their campaigns, players like Prasidh Krishna and Sanju Samson were unable to maintain their momentum throughout the competition. Also, they lack a powerful all-rounder with a reputation for winning games. While Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer can score swiftly, it can be difficult to depend on them all the time.
