MS Dhoni’s Mysterious ‘New Role’ Sends IPL Fans into a Frenzy!

MS Dhoni

The Indian Premier League (IPL) eagerly awaits the return of MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings’ colors. Last time the former Indian cricket team captain wore the jersey, CSK clinched the IPL championship for a record-equalling fifth time. Despite speculation about retirement after IPL 2023, Dhoni announced his intention to continue playing due to the love he receives. Following IPL 2023, Dhoni underwent knee surgery, but recent viral training videos show his preparation for IPL 2024.

On Monday, Dhoni teased fans with an intriguing update on Facebook, stating, “Can’t wait for the new season and the new ‘role’. Stay tuned!” While it’s unclear if he referred to IPL 2024, the mention of a ‘new role’ sparked viral speculation about whether Dhoni will transition to a coaching position.

Comments flooded Dhoni’s post, with one user asking if he would be coaching this season, while another speculated if he would work as a mentor. There were even suggestions that CSK might announce a new captain, hinting at a possible retirement for Dhoni.

Meanwhile, CSK’s pre-season camp commenced on Saturday, with pacer Deepak Chahar aiming for a national team return through consistent IPL performance. The first batch of local players arrived on Friday, including Simarjeet Singh, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary, Prashant Solanki, Ajay Mandal, and Deepak Chahar.

Chahar, who hasn’t played cricket since last December due to personal reasons, declared himself fully fit last month while training at the National Cricket Academy. He eyes a comeback for the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA in June.

However, MS Dhoni’s participation in the IPL remains unconfirmed. He was recently seen with his wife Sakshi in Jamnagar, attending the pre-wedding function of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani.

CSK will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22.
