It’s the end of an era for Pakistan cricket as two big names, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, have officially said goodbye to the international stage. Amir dropped the news on Saturday, December 14, and Imad did the same a day earlier, leaving fans a little shook.
Mohammad Amir Retires (Again)
Amir, the OG pace king, had everyone talking when he made a surprise comeback earlier this year for the T20 World Cup. But now, the 32-year-old has decided to hang up his international boots for good. He shared the news on social media, writing:
“After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable.”
Translation? Amir’s ready to pass the torch to the next-gen. He gave a shoutout to the PCB, his family, and the fans for backing him through all the highs and lows.
“Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights,” he added.
Let’s not forget, Amir wasn’t just any bowler—this guy was a walking highlight reel. Whether it was tearing through batting lineups in the 2017 Champions Trophy final or swinging it like a boss, Amir knew how to bring the heat. He ends his career with 271 international wickets and a fanbase that’ll stan him forever.
Imad Wasim
Just when fans were processing Amir’s decision, Imad Wasim hit us with his own farewell. The 35-year-old announced his retirement on Friday, saying it’s time to move on and make way for the young guns.
Imad, who’s been rocking the green jersey since 2015, was a clutch player with both bat and ball. He played 130 games for Pakistan, scoring 1,540 runs and taking 117 wickets. His versatility made him a key player in ODIs and T20Is.
“Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honour of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable,” he said in his farewell post.
While Imad’s signing off from international cricket, he’s not fully gone. He’s planning to keep grinding in domestic and franchise leagues, so you’ll still see him doing his thing.
