Lucknow Super Giants had an impressive start to IPL as they managed to get into the playoffs. The Lucknow think tank, under the direction of head coach Andy Flower and mentor Gautam Gambhir, placed a strong focus on playing entertaining cricket, and they intend to follow suit. Let’s take a closer look at Lucknow’s squad for this years TATA IPL.
Batting
KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda comprise the top 3. Rahul has been in terrible form and this would be concerning for LSG. Nicolas Pooran would come in at 4. He had a terrific spell while playing the T10 league in Abu Dhabi. Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya will bat at number 5 and 6 respectively. Both of them are known to score fast late on and LSG will be hoping that they can repeat the heroics of last season. They have good backup options in the form of Manan Vohra, Kyle Mayers and Ayush Badoni.
All-Rounders
The LSG has arguably got the most number of all-rounders in the league. Krunal Pandya, Stoinis, Hooda, Kyle Mayers and Gowtham are just a few of the all-around players available to LSG.On any match day, they can have upto 2-3 all-rounders which will be vital as they can have a long batting lineup and many bowling options.
Bowlers
The bowling attack of LSG also looks quite good. Mark Wood, Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan will be teams primary pace options. Jaydev Unadkat and Naveen ul Haq are some backup pace options. They also have an array of spin bowlers to choose from. LSG have Karn Sharma, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi and Krishnappa Gowtham. Deepak Hooda can also chip in few overs in the middle part of the innings
Lucknow Super Giants Strength
Even before the auction, the LSG had a batting lineup, which includes players like K.L. Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, and Deepak Hooda, which was unquestionably one of the finest in the league. Now Nicolas Pooran has joined their ranks. Every time they entered the field, Lucknow’s roster of all-rounders appeared to be endless. They still have Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Kyle Mayers even after releasing Holder. In addition to spinners Krishnappa Gowtham and Krunal Pandya, they boast talented pacers like Mark Wood, Avesh Khan, and Jason Holder.
Lucknow Super Giants Weakness
Although the team possesses a dynamic opening batting pair in KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, the absence of another skilled Indian batsman could be problematic. Rahul’s performance has been a source of worry. If he does get runs, they rarely arrive quickly. A second expert spinner would likely be required to support Bishnoi and the all-rounders Hooda and Krunal.
