India's tour of West Indies: Gaikwad and Jaiswal In, Pujara Out

India’s tour of West Indies: India has announced their squads for the three-match ODI series and two-match Test series they will play against the West Indies in July and August.

For both India and West Indies, the Test series will mark the beginning of the World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle. India will need to win the ODI series in order to step up their preparations for the Cricket World Cup later in the year.

India has made some significant decisions by bringing in some new faces for the Test setup after the heartbreak of losing the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval. The team has added Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, two uncapped batters, in place of veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.

In the IPL, Jaiswal and Gaikwad, who opened the batting for the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively, had outstanding seasons. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav aren’t in the team, but pacers Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini are.

In addition, Ajinkya Rahane has been selected the team’s vice-captain, with Rohit Sharma remaining the captain. Jasprit Bumrah continues to be excluded because he has not fully recovered from his back injury.

Many of the regulars are also included in the ODI team, while Gaikwad is included in the white ball setup as well. Sanju Samsom has also been recalled, with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out with injuries.

Jaydev Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj are also picked in the limited-overs squad, along with Mukesh Kumar, who is back as the fast bowler. Umran Malik rounds out the fast bowling attack. In addition, India has four possibilities for spin bowling in the ODI squad: Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel.

The ODI team will be captained by Rohit Sharma, with Hardik Pandya serving as his assistant.

Dominica will host the first Test on July 12 while Trinidad will host the final Test on July 24. Following suit, the three-match series will take place from July 27 to August 1.

India has not yet selected its team for the T20I series.
