IND vs BAN 1st Test Day 1: India and Bangladesh kicked off at their 1st test of their two test test series MA Chidambaram Stadium with Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to field first. This decision, though surprising, was impacted by the overcast conditions. The pitch had speed and venom unlike the spinning tracks which is usually found in the sub-continent.
Early Setbacks for India
Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by the young Hasan Mahmud, made an instant impact dismissing Indian captain Rohit Sharma early. The Indian top order struggled against the disciplined bowling attack, with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli falling cheaply. By the end of the first hour of the first session, India was reeling at 36/3.
Resilience from the Middle Order
The middle order, however, showed some fight in them. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant put together a crucial partnership to stabilize the innings. Jaiswal’s patient approach and Pant’s aggressive style complemented each other well, helping India recover from the early blows.
Hasan Mahmud’s Heroics
Hasan Mahmud was the standout performer for Bangladesh, finishing the day with impressive figures of 4/58. His ability to swing the ball both ways troubled the Indian batsmen throughout the day.
India’s Recovery
By the end of the day’s play, India had managed to reach 339/6, thanks to the efforts of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, with Ashwin scoring a brilliant century and Jadeja not out on 86. India will be looking to cross 400 on day 2 and get a commanding score.
