Virat Kohli is set to make his return to competitive cricket ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 season. The star cricketer, who missed India’s recent Test series against England due to personal reasons, is expected to join Royal Challengers Bangalore’s pre-tournament camp in Bengaluru.

Kohli’s return comes as a boost for RCB, who are gearing up for their IPL 2023 opener against Chennai Super Kings on March 22. The team has confirmed that they have no injury or player unavailability issues ahead of the match.

According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, Kohli will join the team’s training camp before the opener. The report also states that RCB’s new signing, Cameron Green, will also be available for the CSK game after being allowed to miss the Sheffield Shield final by Cricket Australia.

With Virat Kohli back in the mix, RCB is set to field their strongest playing eleven against Chennai. Kohli is likely to open the batting alongside captain Faf du Plessis, with whom he formed a formidable partnership, scoring over 1000 runs together in IPL 2023. The middle order will be further strengthened by the presence of Cameron Green, Rajat Patidar, and Glenn Maxwell, followed by wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.

In IPL 2023, Virat Kohli scored 639 runs in 14 innings, including two centuries. Despite his individual brilliance, RCB finished sixth in the points table. Kohli’s last IPL innings saw him smashing an unbeaten century against Gujarat Titans, and fans will be hoping for a similar impact from him in the upcoming 17th edition of the tournament.

At the international level, Kohli’s last T20I appearance was against Afghanistan in January, where he scored 29 and 0 in two innings. He was the team’s leading run-scorer in the Tests during the South Africa tour, showcasing his form and readiness for the challenges ahead.
