The 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup is just around the corner, and the excitement is building up as the tournament returns to India after 12 years. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released a stunning promo video for the upcoming event, featuring one of India’s biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan.
Shah Rukh Khan, also known as SRK, is a legendary actor and producer in Indian cinema, with a global fan following. He is also a part-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the most popular cricket league in the world. SRK lends his voice to the promo video, which showcases the motto and tagline of the tournament — ‘All it takes is one day’.
The video captures the essence of the one-day format of cricket, which is also known as ODI (One Day International). In this format, each team plays 50 overs (300 balls) and tries to score as many runs as possible. The team with the higher score at the end wins the match. The video highlights how one day can make or break history, how one day can inspire passion and pride, how one day can overcome fear and odds, and how one day can create glory and immortality.
The video also features some of the iconic moments and players from the previous editions of the World Cup, as well as some of the current stars and fans from all 10 participating teams. The teams are: India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and West Indies. Some of the notable appearances in the video are: Eoin Morgan, the captain of England who lifted the trophy in 2019; Dinesh Karthik, Jonty Rhodes, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shubman Gill, and Jemimah Rodrigues, who represent different aspects of cricket such as batting, fielding, bowling, and dancing.
SRK narrates the video with his trademark charisma and charm, saying:
“The difference between making history and being history: one day. Jerseys will be worn, and chests will swell with pride, on that one day. Passion will triumph logic, and memories will be etched, on that one day. Fears will be conquered, and odds will be braved, on that one day. From the highs of joy, to the lows of anguish, it will all be embraced, on that one day.”
“Rivalries will be redefined on the pitch, and respect reimagined in the stands. The power of belief will emerge from the hearts of a billion. Songs will be sung, dances will be danced, and eyes will widen in wonder, on that one day. And when that day comes, and when that day finally comes, glory will be immortalized.”
“This is the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, for everything ever dreamt for, pushed for, lived for, it takes one day.”
The promo video has gone viral on social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube , with fans expressing their admiration and anticipation for the tournament. The World Cup is set to begin on October 5 with a clash between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is also the venue for the final on November 14. India will play their first match against Pakistan on October 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which is expected to be a blockbuster encounter.
The World Cup promises to be a spectacle of cricketing excellence and entertainment for millions of fans across the world. With SRK as its voice and face, it also showcases India’s cultural diversity and richness. As SRK says in the video: “This is not just cricket. This is something more.”
