Delhi Capitals (DC) have confirmed that their star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is on track to return to action in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, after recovering from a car accident that sidelined him for over a year.
Pant, who suffered serious injuries in a road mishap in December 2022, has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation and training under the guidance of DC’s coaching and physio staff. He also attended a DC camp in Kolkata in November, where he interacted with the team’s director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, head coach Ricky Ponting, and assistant coach Pravin Amre.
DC’s top official, PKSV Sagar, told ANI that Pant is showing remarkable progress and is expected to be fit and ready by March. “He is a pivotal player for us, and if he returns, it will be a significant boost. We are hopeful that he will play this season,” Sagar said.
Rishabh Pant, is widely regarded as one of the most explosive and versatile batsmen in the world. He has also been a key performer for DC.
Apart from Pant’s potential comeback, DC also strengthened their squad by acquiring four new players in the IPL auction held on January 18. They roped in England’s Harry Brook, Australia’s Jhye Richardson, West Indies’ Shai Hope, and India’s Kumar Kushagra for a combined sum of INR 17.05 crore.
DC, who finished 9th in the IPL 2023, will be aiming to clinch their maiden title in the IPL 2024, which is scheduled to start in April.
