Pakistan's Famous Gaddafi Stadium renamed as…......!

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached an agreement with a private bank to rename Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The arrangement is worth PKR 1 billion and will span five years. Although the PCB has yet to make an official announcement, sources say the deal is finalized.

Gaddafi Stadium is going to have the same name as Karachi’s National Stadium, which is presently known as the National Bank Cricket Arena. This move is part of the PCB’s strategy to finance the costs of upgrading three key stadiums for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

Lahore’s stadium was named after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 1974. The process of selling stadium naming rights began in 2021, under previous PCB chairman Ramiz Raja. Mohsin Naqvi, the current PCB chairman, plans on using these arrangements to boost domestic cricket and revenue.

Why is it called Gaddafi Stadium?

Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was named after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 1974. Following Gaddafi’s supportive address at the Islamic Summit Conference in Lahore, the stadium was renamed in his honor by Pakistan’s then-President, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
