Novak Djokovic, the world number one tennis player and 24-time Grand Slam champion, has expressed his gratitude to Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket captain and batting sensation, for his kind words and encouragement ahead of the 2024 Australian Open. Djokovic also said that he hopes to play with Kohli someday, as he admires his talent and passion for the game.

Novak Djokovic, who is aiming to win his 11th Australian Open title, shared a video message on social media platform ‘X’, where he thanked Kohli for his wishes and revealed their friendship.

“Hi Virat, thank you so much for your lovely message and your kind words. It means a lot to me. I’m glad that we have this connection and this friendship. You’re a great guy and a great player. I admire your dedication and your work ethic. You’re an inspiration to many people, including me. I hope that one day we can play together. That would be a dream come true for me. I wish you all the best for the upcoming cricket season. Keep shining, my friend,” Djokovic said.

Kohli, had earlier sent a video message to Djokovic, where he wished him good luck for the Australian Open and praised his achievements. Kohli also disclosed how he and Djokovic started chatting on Instagram, after he discovered that the Serb had already messaged him.

Kohli, who is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, also expressed his confidence in Djokovic’s performance at the Australian Open, where he has dominated for the past decade. “I would like to wish you all the very best for the Australian Open. I know how excited and prepared you are for these big events, and I have no doubt that we’ll see the Novak Djokovic that we’ve seen over the years. I hope you have a great tournament,” Kohli added.

Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles, began his Australian Open campaign with a hard-fought victory over Croatian teenager Dino Prizmic in the first round. The Serb, who is known for his resilience and mental strength, came back from a set down to defeat the 18-year-old Prizmic 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.
