Mumbai Indians finished rock-bottom for the first time in IPL history. They have a lot of soul searching to do as the most successful franchise in IPL history will look to rebound and get back their best. Mahela Jayawardene and the rest of the management staff will have their work cut out to find that elusive eleven that will bring glory to Wankhede again. Let’s take a closer look at Mumbai Indians squad for this season Indian Premier League.

Batting
MI’s reliable batting is their best weapon. They’ve had players with a track record of excellence on their team for a while. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Surya kumar Yadav comprise a solid top 3 who can win matches on their own. Tristan Subbs and Tim David are expected to bat in 4 and 5. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green could bat at 6 but the management could push him up the order. Mumbai Indians could struggle late on as they don’t seem to have a good lower order batters who could add some crucial runs.
All Rounders
Over the years Mumbai Indians have always featured all-rounders who provide wonderful balance to the squad regardless of the conditions. But this time, things are different. Pollard had been a deadly finisher in recent seasons, but he has retired from the IPL. Mumbai has purchased Cameron Green to take Kieron Pollard’s spot.
Bowlers
The Mumbai Indians bowling lineup will be led by Jasprit Bumrah. Jofra Archer will also be available starting in IPL 2023. Both of them combined make a lethal attack but it remains to be seen whether they would be fit to play. They also have Australian quicks in Jason Behrendoff and Jhye Richardson who could come in handy with their pace and variations. Cam Green will be vital for Mumbai Indians as he could bowl in the middle overs and keep a lid on the scoring. They severely lack a world class spinner but they would be hoping that Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya would do the job.
Mumbai Indians Strength
The presence of Mumbai’s captain Rohit Sharma, who has helped the team win five IPL championships, is their greatest asset. The arrival of Camron Green makes the MI batting look even more dangerous given the already-retained talent of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and the other rising stars. Players like Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, and Tim David have the ability to win games in just a few overs. Mumbai will have one of the fiercest speed attacks in the league if Jofra and Bumrah are eligible for selection.
Mumbai Indians Weakness
Except from Cam Green, Mumbai does not have a world-class all-rounder. His absence would be a major problem for Mumbai Indians as he is currently recovering from an injury. The Mumbai Indians’ lack of a proven spinner is also a big weakness. They have a Piyush Chawla on the decline and a Kumar Kartikeya on the rise. Although having a strong domestic season in 2022, Kumar Kartikeya can fare badly on a higher level. Nehal Wadhera and Shams Mulani are two upcoming all-rounders in the squad but it seems they would rarely be used this time around. Duan Jansen is another good option for Mumbai.
