Ind vs Afg: India Begins Super 8 Campaign with Dominant Win Over Afghanistan

Ind vs Afg: India kicked off their Super 8 campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup with an impressive 47-run victory over Afghanistan. The star of the show was Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a rapid 53 off 28 balls. His explosive batting laid the foundation for India’s strong total, supported by a crucial 60-run partnership off 37 balls with Hardik Pandya for the fifth wicket. Axar Patel provided the finishing touches with a brisk 12 runs off six balls, taking India to a competitive score of 181/8.

Afghanistan’s bowlers initially kept India’s aggressive batting in check after Rohit Sharma chose to bat first. Rohit was dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi in the third over, setting the tone for Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling. Rashid Khan further dented India’s progress by removing Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli post-powerplay. Kohli, aiming to anchor the innings, was dismissed for a run-a-ball 24, caught at long-off.

Following Kohli’s departure, Suryakumar Yadav took charge, finding a reliable partner in Hardik Pandya. Pandya contributed a valuable 32 off 24 balls before falling in the 18th over.

India’s bowlers then seized control of the match, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack. Bumrah’s exceptional figures of 3/7 included the crucial wickets of both Afghan openers in his first two overs. The introduction of an extra spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, proved to be a masterstroke as Afghanistan’s batters struggled to score in the middle overs. Afghanistan lost three wickets during the powerplay and their batting lineup crumbled further after the 10th over, leading to their eventual downfall.

India’s comprehensive performance in both batting and bowling ensured a strong start to their Super 8 journey in the T20 World Cup, showcasing their potential as tournament contenders.
