After failing to advance to the playoffs in IPL 2022, the Delhi Capitals experienced another disappointing year. They will be fired up and ready to make a big impression this year. Finding the ideal team balance is the next step in achieving IPL glory for the team, which has practically all of its bases covered. For each position in the starting Eleven, Ricky Ponting and the Delhi Capitals management are currently flooded with options. Let’s have an analysis of Delhi Capital’s squad for the Indian Premier League 2023.
DC sought a seasoned opener to pair with Shaw after failing to secure Shikhar Dhawan in the mega auction. By signing Australian batter Warner, who is essentially a Dhawan substitute, they have a like-for-like replacement. Youngster Yash Dhull might also have a chance to shine in the batting part if he is given a chance. Mitchell Marsh and Manish Pandey are also there in addition to them.
The absence of captain and talisman Rishabh Pant will hurt Delhi a lot but the presence of Rilee Rossouw and Rovman Powell will add much-needed firepower in the middle order. In-form batsman Sarfaraz Khan, Phil Salt, and Lalit Yadav can come in handy if any one of the top-order batsmen fails.
Although Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel are not the strongest hitters in cricket, they can still contribute a few important runs to the total. Axar is without a doubt the best candidate for the seventh number on the team owing to his all-around abilities. He has proven to be highly valuable for his team in previous seasons.
Lait Yadav is quite familiar with big-hitting and he can bowl in the middle overs. Marsh is a wicket-taking bowler who can bowl fairly at regular intervals. Marsh will play a crucial part for the DC. He can bat at no. 3 or 4.
With Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, DC’s bowling has been particularly lethal in recent seasons. In order to fill the void left by Rabada, DC bought Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed, and Chetan Sakariya, three left-arm pacers from the mega auction.
Kuldeep Yadav has made significant progress over the last year. He was outstanding for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022, and he is the best spinner on the DC team. He is without a doubt the star of the Delhi Capitals’ bowling lineup.
One of the most difficult bowlers to hit in the final few overs is Mustafizur Rahman, who bowls excellent cutters. In Rabada’s absence, his presence is essential. Anrich Nortje is a top-tier pacer who can consistently bowl at 150 km/h. Nortje is a must-have in the Delhi Capitals’ starting XI. He gives the Delhi Capitals’ IPL bowling attack a new dynamic element.
Luigi Ndidi, Khaleel Ahmed, and Ishant Sharma will provide much-needed depth and variety to the bowling lineup.
Delhi Capitals Strength
Delhi has a strong top 3. Warner, Shaw, and Marsh, or Warner, Shaw, and Pandey are projected to make up the top 3. Every combo works well. Their depth in fast bowling is their other strength. The best players in the business are there. Kamlesh, Mustafizur, Khaleel, and Chetan. Anrich Nortje’s presence is also of immense value.
Delhi Capitals Weakness
Lack of an Indian middle-order hitter is the issue. They are banking on Sarfaraz Khan, although in red-ball cricket, Sarfaraz has scored runs. His stats in the domestic white-ball league are not highly encouraging. There would be a huge void without Rishabh Pant. Phil Salt will take his position but he lacks experience playing in India.
