Sarfaraz Khan, the 26-year-old cricket sensation, is set to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) arena, this time with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming season. Having debuted with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2015, Sarfaraz’s journey in the IPL has been eventful. After a stint with Punjab Kings (PBKS), he was bought by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2022, only to be released ahead of the IPL 2024 players’ auction for a base price of Rs 20 lakhs.

Reports suggest that Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s newly-appointed mentor, has been a strong advocate for Sarfaraz’s signing. Despite interest from other teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and RCB, who still have enough cash to sign him, KKR seems to be leading the race.

Sarfaraz’s IPL track record hasn’t been stellar, with a modest average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 85.48 in the 2023 season. However, his recent international debut has sparked newfound interest in his capabilities. Called up to the Indian team as a replacement for injured players, Sarfaraz made headlines with his impressive performances against England in the Test series. Scoring 62 and 68 runs in his debut match, he played a pivotal role in India’s victory.

With the IPL auctions around the corner, all eyes are on Sarfaraz Khan as he prepares to don the KKR jersey and prove his mettle once again on the biggest stage of T20 cricket.
