REMEMBER THE NAME! 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history as the youngest player ever to be signed by an IPL franchise. Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him for Rs 1.10 crore after a fierce bidding battle with Delhi Capitals.
Vaibhav’s Cricket Journey
Vaibhav, from Tajpur village in Bihar, started playing cricket when he was just four. His father, Sanjeev, built a small cricket ground in their backyard to support his dream. By the age of 12, he had already made a name for himself in domestic cricket.
At 12 years and 284 days old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi debuted in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s history. He scored nearly 400 runs in five matches. In 2023-24, he made his Ranji Trophy debut against Mumbai.
In October 2024, Vaibhav scored a 58-ball century for India U-19 against Australia U-19, making history as the youngest batter to score an international century.
Despite his age, Vaibhav faced some questions about his eligibility to play in the IPL. However, RR’s CEO, Jake Lush McCrum, praised him as an “exceptional talent.” With mentors like Rahul Dravid and Kumar Sangakkara, Vaibhav is set for a bright future in the IPL.
