Sri Lanka’s Chameera Joins KKR for IPL 2024, Atkinson Out

KKR IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made a significant change to their squad for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise announced on Monday that Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera will be replacing England’s Gus Atkinson.

Chameera, who was available at a reserve price of ₹50 lakh, will join KKR for the upcoming season. The IPL organisers confirmed this development in a statement.

The Sri Lankan speedster has prior experience in the IPL, having played for Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 and 2021 seasons respectively. In the 2022 season, Chameera represented Lucknow Super Giants, where he managed to pick up nine wickets from 12 matches.

On the other hand, Gus Atkinson, who was picked up by KKR at his base price of INR 1 Crore in the IPL Auction in December 2023, hasn’t featured in the IPL previously.

Chameera’s IPL stint had hit a roadblock due to a shoulder injury, which sidelined him from the Sri Lankan team for a considerable period last year. However, he made a successful return to cricket, featuring in the IL20 in UAE and also playing against Afghanistan for Sri Lanka.
