Pat Cummins Does the Double! First Ever Back-to-Back T20 World Cup Hat-Tricks

With a record-breaking performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has cemented himself as a legend in the making. On Saturday in St. Vincent, Cummins made history by recording back-to-back hat-tricks, a first in the competition’s history.

His brilliance was on full display versus Afghanistan. Cummins had already dazzled the crowd two days earlier against Bangladesh with a hat-trick over two overs. This time, he dismissed three important Afghan batters in three successive deliveries thanks to his outstanding bowling: Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib.

This remarkable achievement is even more impressive considering it’s only the eighth time a bowler has claimed a hat-trick in the Men’s T20 World Cup. However, Cummins stands alone as the only player to achieve it twice in a row.

He joins an elite club of bowlers who have previously achieved hat-tricks in the tournament. These include Josh Little (Ireland, 2022), Karthik Meiyappan (UAE, 2022), Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka, 2021), Kagiso Rabada (South Africa, 2021), Australian star Brett Lee (2007), and Curtis Campher (Ireland, 2022).

Pat Cummins himself initially admitted being unaware of his hat-trick against Bangladesh. However, the second time around, the magnitude of the feat wasn’t lost on him. “I remembered that one,” he declared during the innings break. “It’s crazy that I have played over 100 games for Australia and now I have got two [hat-tricks] in a row.”

Cummins’ back-to-back hat-tricks have undoubtedly become a major talking point in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
