Australian captain Pat Cummins has officially confirmed his return to cricket ahead of IPL 2025, assuring fans that his ankle injury is no longer a concern. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper had missed the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to the injury but has now resumed training with a focus on getting match-ready for the IPL season.
Cummins on Track for Full Recovery
Cummins sustained the ankle injury during India’s tour of Australia, forcing him to take an extended break. However, the star pacer has now started bowling again and feels confident about his fitness.
“The ankle is feeling as strong as it has in a while. I was able to give it proper rest and build it up slowly, something that’s tough to do with a packed schedule. Everything is on track for the IPL, and I’m excited to be back on the field.”
Having opted against surgery, Cummins revealed that the focus has been on rehabilitation and strengthening, ensuring that he is fully fit before making his comeback.
“We decided not to go for surgery. Instead, I took some cortisone shots and focused on rehab. The time off has helped a lot, and I feel ready to go again.”
Managing Workload & Avoiding Burnout
Cummins, who leads Australia in Tests and ODIs, emphasized the importance of managing workload, especially in today’s demanding cricket calendar.
“Sometimes, missing one series actually allows you to play more over the year. You can’t play everything anymore, and the key is to stay at your peak for as long as possible.”
With a packed cricket schedule, Cummins’ return to T20 cricket will be crucial for SRH, as they look to build on their finals appearance in IPL 2024 and push for their first title since 2016.
