Australia’s bowlers put on a impressive show in rain-affected warm-up match ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The match, which was held in Thiruvananthapuram, was reduced to 23 overs per side due to heavy showers. Australia, batting first, scored 166 runs, thanks to Steve Smith’s half-century and Cameron Green’s cameo. However, the real drama unfolded when Netherlands came out to chase the target under the floodlights.

Mitchell Starc, the left-arm fast bowler, was the star of the show as he ripped through the Netherlands’ top order with a sensational hat-trick in his first two overs. Starc dismissed Max O’Dowd, Wasley Barresi and Bas de Leed with three consecutive deliveries, leaving the Dutch reeling at 12 for 4. Starc finished with figures of 3 for 18 in three overs, while his fellow pacers Mitch Marsh and Sean Abbott.

Netherlands recovered well to reach 84 for 6 in 14.2 overs but rain interrupted play and the match was suspended.

The match was a clear indication of Australia’s bowling prowess and their readiness for the upcoming World Cup, where they will face tough competition from other teams. Australia open their campaign against hosts India on October 8 at the iconic MA Chidambaram stadium.

Netherlands play their first match against Pakistan on October 6 at Rajiv Gandhi stadium at Hyderabad.
