IND vs AUS 4th Test: Khawaja and Green post dominant Tons as Australia score 480

Australia gained the upper hand against India on the second day of the fourth Test thanks to Usman Khawaja’s 180 and Cameron Green’s first-ever Test century.

Australia scored a fantastic 480 thanks to a 208-run partnership between Khawaja and Green, with Green contributing 114 runs.

While India eventually bowled out the visitors in Ahmedabad, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finished with 6-91.

India finished the day on 36-0 and trailed by 444 runs as openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played 10 overs.

Australia wants to win in order to tie the series 2-2. In remembrance of Pat Cummins’ mother Maria, who passed away on Thursday, the visitors donned black armbands.

Prior to the third Test, Cummins, the regular Test captain, had returned to Australia, therefore Steve Smith served as interim captain.

Khawaja remained at the wicket for a total of 10 hours, improving on his 104 on the first day to give Australia the upper hand.

Khawaja had good company as Green, who was not chosen for the first two Tests, hammered 18 fours in his 170-ball inning. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel eventually broke Khawaja’s stand, and Green was caught down the leg side off Ashwin. If Australia draws the series, they will be the first team to avoid defeat in an away Test series against India since England did so on their 2012 tour.

If India wins, they will be guaranteed a spot in the World Test Championship championship game in June.

Cameroon Green: “It’s a very good wicket”

You never know when it’s going to happen, but I am grateful. Ussie helped me so much out there. It is really special. [Runs in subcontinent] Probably down to practice… all the information from the dressing room. This wicket isn’t spinning yet. You see what Travis does with the new ball, so the second new ball was a chance to score. But that wasn’t too much sort of… It’s a very good wicket.”
